KICK DOWN 82 "WAR IN WYOMING"

PEAK REMAINS UNDEFEATED...........STILL KICK DOWN CHAMPION

Nunnaley pulls upset-crowned new Middleweight champion. Speiser 1st ever UFA Middleweight Champ.

On a night where the buzz surrounded arguably one of if not the most anticipated main event match ups in Wyoming MMA history patrons packed the Central Wyoming Fairgrounds to follow their favorite fighter or fighter. In this case at least one quarter of the standing room only crowd were there to see Travis Peak and he did not dissappoint. The Kick Down welterweight champion made yet another title defense against 38-13 Ultimate Fighter veteran Brandon Melendez. Before the event started the big question was how would Travis Peak do against tougher competition. That question was answered at close to 10:45PM MST on Saturday night when at 4:09 of the 1st round Travis Peak got the rear naked choke victory. When the bout started the two fighters met in the center of the Kick Down cage and it would be Melendez who would throw a high head kick at Peak and then Travis would work for and get the take down. Melendez then would work for the arm bar and get stacked by Peak and the fight then went back to standing. In the clinch it would again be Melendez that would land a partial knee to the head of Peak when they broke apart at the rear of the cage. Peak with another take down and started working his brand of top notch wrestling and ground control. The fight then gets back to standing and it would be Brandon Melendez that would get the take down which surprised the Peak followers. There Travis Peak would work to take the back of Brandon and set in the fight ending rear naked choke for the victory. A great 4 minutes of action between the two with striking, big take downs, and ground control. Travis Peak continued with his winning ways and made all in attendance realize that he has the tools to make it to the highest level in MMA.
Shaun Ogle would face TJ Nunnaley in a re-match and this time it would have the Middleweight title up for grabs. Ogle would look to acquire the belt again and defeat Nunnaley for the second time in 2010. The bout opened and it would be Nunnaley that put together a good standing strike combination and there Ogle would take him down and land several shots one of which put a mouse under the left eye of nunnaley. Ogle worked for submissions throughout the round but Nunnaley escaped as the bell sounded to end round 1. In round two the fighters would stand and it would be Nunnaley that would try and position his strikes and stay away from Ogle and he did a good job of it but Ogle would again get a take down and try to work on the eye that TJ certainly would have difficulty seeing out of. In a back and forth round that the crowd began getting into the bell sounded to end round two. At this point it was amazing that Nunnaley could see anything from the left eye but he demanded to continue fighting which he did. In the third round both fighters would stand for much of the first 2 minutes and what may have scored more points in the judges eyes were the three spinning side kicks that were thrown by TJ Nunnaley. The round went back and forth with both clinching but the fans were somewhat shocked to see that Nunnaley was still fighting. Toward the very end of the round Shaun Ogle would get the take down and work Nunnaley up against the fence of the cage but Nunnaley attempted to strike from the bottom as the bell sounded. The judges scored the bout 29-28 Nunnaley, 29-28 Ogle, 29-28 Nunnaley and TJ gets the victory and is crowned the new amateur Kick Down middleweight champion. In doing so he won the hearts of many by never waivering on staying in the fight and fighting with what appeared to be one normal eye and a left eye that was swollen over to the point it was hard to look at. In his post fight interview Nunnaley thanked the Casper crowd for their respect and stated "you see this eye...............it is worth it as he pointed to the championship belt he was wearing.
Kris Carroll VS Taylor Montoya
This bout would be contested in the middleweight division and it was a good match up as we would learn after watching the two competitors. Kris Carroll would come into the bout 3-2 with Montoya 3-1. Montoya had not fought in over 3 years and had only trained for the bout for just three weeks. The bout opened and both fighter seemed content to stand and trade with both landing strikes and countering. Then the fight went to the ground and it appeared that perhaps Carroll had the advantage there but it would be Montoya that would get up and force the fight back to the feet. There the two would again exchange and rock one another with punches in what looked like a fight that would be a back and forth "slug fest". Montoya then landed a shot that sent Carroll backward and his corner Chad Barker screaming to go after Carroll when the bell sounded to end round 1. Both fighters visibly fatigued-it would be Kris Carroll that could not answer the bell to begin round 2. Taylor Montoya wins at 3:00 of round 1.
Randy Speiser VS Zack Yamabushi-Universal Fight Alliance Middleweight MMA Title
Randy Speiser entered the contest 3-3 and the newcomer to the event Yamabushi had trained in Thailand in muay thai, special ops in the military, and had the size and look of a seasoned fighter. The bout started and rather than keep the fight standing it would be Speiser that would take the fight to the ground and work Yamabushi with ground control. Yamabushi would struggle to get out from underneath Randy Speiser and when it appeared he would Speiser took advantage and landed the title winning Arm Bar. After a few near victories and some strange happenings Randy Speiser who had never waivered in his attempt to to become a better fighter with some continuos training out of Rawlins, Wyoming with the Raw Town Fight Team becomes the sister promotions first ever Universal Fight Alliance middleweight champion.
Randy Speiser wins at 1:59 of R1 by Arm Bar.
Larry Lloyd VS Pete Stanonik
This much anticipated bout would be contested in the middleweight division as both fighters came in just above the welterweight limit. Stanonik would look for his first victory in MMA where Lloyd would look to get his second. The bout opened with solid round kicks thrown by Pete and immediately the crowd saw the skill level of the fighter out of Cody, Wyoming. Larry Lloyd would counter and exchange blows with Stanonik for the better part of round one in what was truly turning into a "war". Both fighters would counter strike one another with heavy hands in what appeared to be a very entertaining bout as the bell sounded to end round one. To open the second round it was Stanonik that would get the better of it by standing and landing and an exchange that appeared to rock Lloyd but he kept fighting after being put against the cage fence he would try to come out after Stanonik and it was there that Lloyd took a strike and was knocked out. After several minutes the medical staff after evaluating the fighter he was taken to the local hospital for observation and we were told released early Sunday morning. Although there were no broken bones or fractures it is not clear what the future holds for Larry Lloyd. Our thoughts are with he and his family.

Pete Stanonik wins by KO at :37 of R2

Don Larkin VS Anthony Nunnenkamp

Don Larkin would make his second appearance in the promotion and look to go to 2-0 with a vitcory over his opponent who made the long trip from North Platte, Nebraska to make his fight debut. The bout opened and it took little time for Larkin to take Nunnenkamp to the ground and there Larkin looking like a fighter with years of experience patiently and methodically worked excellent ground control and literally waited for his opponent to move his bdoy into the right position before cinching up the fight ending rear naked choke. Don Larkin still undefeated at 2-0 and much improved since his last outing loks to the future with the victory. Anthony Nunnenkamp will try again and should. He being one of the 12 new comers to the promotion on this specific fight card.

Don Larkin wins by Rear naked Choke at 1:29 of Round 1.

TJ Hansen Vs Brandon Houser

This bout featured two 18 year olds making their Kick Down and MMA fight debut and there appeared to be some bad blood between the two as there was a question regarding the differencein weight at the weigh ins. From a separate 3rd party Houser thought the fight was to be scheduled at 145 and he weighted in at 146.5 where Hansen weighed in at 141.5. Both parties agreed to the fight and it started out with both standing in the center of the Kick Down cage and traded blows to open and Hansen seemed to have a slight advantage and then the fight went to the ground and there both fighters worked for position with Hansen getting the proper position to attempt and land a solid triangle choke ending the bout in the opening round. It should be noted thatboth fighters put on a nice performance in the short period of time in the cage and the crowd seemed to embrace the two.

TJ Hansen defeated Brandon Houser by Triangle choke at 1:25 of R1.

Jeremy Boillot Vs Tyler Espinoza

Jeremy Boillot came into the event 1-1 and took the bout on less than 1 week notice and he would face a tough debut fighter by the name of Tyler Espinoza who would open the bout by coming out agressively-take the fight to the ground and proceed to throw good strikes at Boillot who was working from his back. The one thing about Jeremy Biollot is you have to finish him because he is one of the new breed of Kick Down fighters that never ever quits and he maintained that status once again by reversing his position and worked with what he was given and took advantage by sinking in the Guillotine choke to move his record to 2-1. It should be noted that along with Biollot the debut fighter Espinoza is a tough new talent that we look forward to seeing in the very near future.

Jeremy Biollot defeated Tyler Espinoza at 1:19 of R1 by Guillotine choke.
